1,800 New Teachers Begin Training Before Starting in Ivory Coast Schools

The 1,800 contract teachers for high schools and middle schools, recruited in mathematics (1,300) and physics (500), began a ten-day initial pedagogical training session on March 30, 2026. After completing the training, they will be deployed in the field from April 13, based on identified needs.

Trained in Ebimpé (mathematics) and Yamoussoukro (physics), these future teachers expressed their gratitude to the State.

Dan Guela Adolphe, from Méagui, holding a Bachelor +2 in Mathematics-Computer Science and an industrial BTS, and Maïmouna Tuo, holding a Master 2 in Economics and Management, are among the 1,300 selected mathematics teachers.

“I taught for seven years in private secondary schools in Méagui. Honestly, the conditions were not satisfactory. During the holidays, we were not paid. I am truly proud to be here and to have been selected. This opportunity is a real relief for me. The training conditions are good, we are well accommodated, and I feel that we are valued and respected,” said Dan Guela Adolphe, a father with one child and three others to support.

He continued: “Today, people see me differently. When I pass by, they say: ‘He has become someone.’ That touches me deeply. I want to thank the President of the Republic, the Minister, and everyone who contributed to organizing this initiative. May God bless them abundantly.”

Speaking about the training, Dan Guela Adolphe said it will help him improve his teaching skills to better educate students: “My goal is to effectively guide students from 6th grade to the final year of high school, helping them gain confidence. My ambition is to instill in them a love for science.”

For her part, Maïmouna Tuo expressed her joy: “Today, I am in training. What is even more encouraging is that we didn’t pay anything, no fees at all. Honestly, I didn’t believe it at first. The only effort required was to cover transportation to take the exam. This has been a real opportunity for us, teachers in difficult situations.”

For her, the situation will no longer be the same: “I used to teach mathematics in a private school in San Pedro for six years. Regarding family life, it was not easy. I have responsibilities, especially with my children. At the end of the month, the little we received was not always enough. Once the rent was paid, almost nothing remained. However, with this opportunity, our lives will change.”
