Four delegations made up of senior public administration officials from Senegal, Togo, Benin, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are undertaking a study visit to Abidjan from January 21 to 23, focusing on the management of the energy sector.
Initiated by the World Bank Group, the mission aims to enable these experts to draw inspiration from Côte d’Ivoire’s experience in developing its energy sector, particularly through the Electricity for All Program (PEPT).
The delegation, comprising around twenty participants, was received on Wednesday, January 21, at the Sciam Building in the Plateau district by Souleymane Soro, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy. He was accompanied by Silué Zahalo, President of the PEPT Fund, along with members of the Minister’s cabinet.
During the discussions, Souleymane Soro thanked the World Bank Group for providing this opportunity for experience-sharing and for promoting Côte d’Ivoire’s model for expanding access to electricity. He emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in accelerating universal access to energy.
For his part, Silué Zahalo highlighted that the PEPT Fund, established by Ordinance No. 2018-809 of October 24, 2018, has enabled a rapid increase in the national electricity access rate. He explained that the Electricity for All Program aims to facilitate access to electricity by simplifying connection procedures and offering flexible payment facilities ranging from three to ten years, depending on the option chosen by beneficiaries.
