Africa World Airlines (AWA) has resumed direct flights between Accra and Abidjan, strengthening air connectivity between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire and opening another link between two of West Africa’s major economic centres.

The resumption was marked on August 31, 2026, at Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan, bringing together airport officials and representatives of the aviation sector.

AWA had announced that its new direct Accra–Abidjan service would begin on August 31, with flights scheduled several times a week.

The route connects Ghana’s capital with Côte d’Ivoire’s economic hub in about one hour, making it particularly relevant for business travellers, tourists and regional trade. Current schedules show direct AWA services operating between the two cities.

For AWA, the new connection represents an expansion of its regional network. The Ghanaian carrier describes its strategy as connecting West African cities through safe and reliable regional air travel.

For Abidjan and Accra, the route could facilitate greater movement of people, businesses and investments between the two economies.

The development also comes as West African countries seek to strengthen regional integration, with air transport playing an important role in reducing travel times between major commercial centres.

With direct flights now linking the two cities again, the Accra–Abidjan corridor is set to become an even more accessible route for business, tourism and regional exchanges.
