The Port of San Pedro is increasingly establishing itself as a key driver in unlocking the economic potential of Côte d’Ivoire’s hinterland, which is rich in agricultural, mining, and forestry resources.
This transformation gained momentum with the commissioning of the multipurpose industrial terminal in 2022, whose construction was launched in 2019 by the Ivorian government. This infrastructure marks a major step forward in the port’s modernization process.
The terminal features a 270-meter-long multifunctional quay with a storage capacity of approximately 250,000 tons. Equipped with high-performance handling equipment, it can accommodate Panamax vessels capable of transporting up to 80,000 tons.
Designed to streamline port operations, the entire system significantly improves both the speed and competitiveness of services.
“We are the world’s leading cocoa export port, and that is a source of pride for the entire country. With this multipurpose terminal, we have started handling new types of cargo such as nickel, manganese, cement products, and more,” said Emmanuel Kouman, a communications officer at the port.
In 2024, port traffic reached approximately 7.4 million tons, confirming the growing importance of this platform in trade exchanges.
As part of this momentum, other major projects are planned, including the construction of a container terminal, which is expected to further strengthen the port’s position as an industrial and logistics hub in West Africa.
