On the first day of the 2026-2027 academic year, the Minister of National Education, Literacy, and Technical Education, N'Guessan Koffi, visited several schools across Abidjan on Monday, September 14, 2026, to ensure the presence of administrative staff, teachers, and students.

Following an inspection tour of Collège Moderne Autoroute, Lycée Moderne de Treichville, Lycée Moderne de Cocody, Groupe Scolaire Cocody Sud, and Lycée Technique d'Abidjan, the Minister commended the immediate and effective start of lessons.

Direct Observations and School Renovations

"I came to observe firsthand, along with my team, that classes have effectively started in these institutions. Lesson number one has officially begun. Across these primary and secondary classrooms, students and teachers are hard at work," Minister Koffi stated.

The Minister emphasized that the visited institutions underwent significant renovation during the summer break, backed by resources provided by the Government of Côte d'Ivoire.

Key infrastructure upgrades include:

·        Collège Moderne Autoroute (built in 1957) & Lycée Moderne de Treichville (built in 1959): Full facility rehabilitations under the Ministry's budget.

·        Groupe Scolaire Cocody Sud: Complete replacement of roofing structures.

Strategic Vision and National Rollout

Addressing parents, educators, and social partners, Minister Koffi reaffirmed the vision driving this school year under the national theme: "Together, let us restore trust to sustainably transform the School."

To ensure a seamless start nationwide, dedicated teams from the Ministry of National Education and Literacy were deployed across all regions of Côte d'Ivoire over the past week.

For this 2026-2027 academic year, 880,000 students are expected in classrooms, including:

·        530,000 primary school pupils

·        350,000 secondary school students

These ongoing educational reforms align with global standards promoted by international development bodies like UNESCO and UNICEF to guarantee quality learning conditions for all children in Côte d'Ivoire.
