Bondoukou University: A Modern Architectural Masterpiece in the Zanzan Autonomous District

The University of Bondoukou stands today as a true architectural masterpiece equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and modern amenities, impressing all who visit.

During the Citizens’ Dialogue Forum organized in the Zanzan Autonomous District by the Government Information and Communication Center (CICG), in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, on Friday, October 3, 2025, in the university’s magnificent 600-seat conference hall, Djakalia Ouattara, President of the institution, proudly presented this ultra-modern gem.

Officially opened on October 2, 2023, the University of Bondoukou is a public institution of higher education and scientific research built on a vast 305-hectare campus. It currently has 107 full-time academic staff, 244 administrative and technical staff, and 2,418 students.

The university offers fifteen innovative and forward-looking academic programs, including Interior Architecture, Music and Sound Professions, Art, Design and Multimedia, Forensic Art and Facial Identification, Speech Therapy, Arabic as a Living Language with an Interpretation option, English with a Commerce and Tourism option, Human Geography, Population and Planning, Socio-Anthropology of Development, Politics, Security and Geostrategy, Metrology and Quality Assurance, Ecological Engineering and Land Management, Management of Organizations and Sustainability Projects, and Architecture and Urban Planning.

The university is also home to the National School of Architecture and Urbanism, hosting nearly all these programs at the national and even continental level. It houses a Continuing Education Center offering professional certification and degree programs in Education Sciences, English, Community Health, and Arabic Didactics.

Furthermore, the university is leading an International Master’s Program in Education for Sustainable Development, which trains and certifies instructors in sustainability. Partner institutions include the University of Yaoundé in Cameroon, the University of Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cheikh Anta Diop University in Senegal, and the University of Clermont-Ferrand in France. The program is supported by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), and all participating countries issue degrees jointly through the University of Bondoukou.

The university also boasts a 2,500-seat library spread across several reading rooms, with 4,518 physical books and over 65,000 digital resources. It has four language labs with 60 connected workstations for learning 15 foreign languages, six multimedia rooms dedicated to teaching and research, and an incubator providing therapy for patients suffering from speech disorders or language loss.

Student welfare is also a top priority. The campus includes a 1,000-bed student residence, a 2,000-seat restaurant, and a fully equipped medical center with an ambulance service.

“Our living and working conditions here are very pleasant because our university is truly beautiful and modern. We have three remote learning systems and even electronic boards in some classrooms, just like in prestigious European universities. Bondoukou University fully meets the standards of modern higher education, and our visitors — even those from Europe and the Arab world — are always impressed,” said President Djakalia Ouattara.

Students Louis Claude Bogui and Manoel Axel Driti, both in their second year of Music and Musicology, share this enthusiasm. “We live on campus. The environment is peaceful, beautiful, and perfect for studying. It’s incredible. We encourage the government to build more universities like this one,” they testified.

The University of Bondoukou thus stands as a symbol of academic excellence, innovation, and modernity — a proud achievement for Côte d’Ivoire’s education system and a beacon of knowledge for the entire Zanzan region.
