The Government of Côte d'Ivoire has secured CFA 171 billion in funding for the Regional Energy Compact program.

The announcement was made by government spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly following the Council of Ministers meeting held on August 5, 2026, in Abidjan.

"The Council ratified a grant agreement totaling US$300 million, equivalent to just over CFA 171 billion, signed on September 16, 2025, between the United States of America, acting through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire to finance the Regional Energy Compact program," he said.

According to the spokesperson, the grant will finance activities related to Côte d'Ivoire's regional electricity program. The program focuses on two key components: supporting the ECOWAS regional electricity market through the operationalization of the second phase of the West African Power Pool (WAPP), and modernizing the country's national electricity grid.

These activities involve targeted investments in tools, equipment, and power infrastructure across Côte d'Ivoire's electricity network to meet the technical and operational requirements of the regional electricity market while increasing the country's net electricity trade within the regional market.
