Côte d’Ivoire – Bingerville Psychiatric Hospital Embraces Innovation to Enhance Patient Monitoring and Safety

Bingerville Psychiatric Hospital plans to equip its patients with GPS bracelets to prevent escapes and ensure better monitoring, announced its director, Dr. Porquet Mabanza Olga, on Friday, August 29, 2025, during a forum organized by the Union of Journalists and Communication Professionals of Bingerville (UJPCB).

This device, which will allow real-time patient tracking, is part of a series of measures aimed at improving security and the quality of care. These include installing surveillance cameras, strengthening security staff, raising the hospital fence, and acquiring a generator to maintain lighting during power outages.

In parallel, the hospital is developing social and therapeutic support initiatives. SMS messages are sent to non-admitted patients to ensure follow-up after treatment, while stabilized patients participate every two weeks in reforestation activities in Abatta to prepare them for social reintegration.

This announcement was made ahead of the celebrations marking the 63rd anniversary of Bingerville Psychiatric Hospital, centered around the theme: “Bingerville Psychiatric Hospital, 63 years later, what contributions to the mental health of Ivorians?”
