Côte d’Ivoire Launches “Family Granary” Initiative to Support Vulnerable Households

On the occasion of the International Day of Families, celebrated on May 15, Côte d’Ivoire reaffirmed its commitment to the family unit, considered a fundamental pillar of nations.

Held under the theme “Contributions of Families to a Greater Côte d’Ivoire,” the 2026 edition highlights the strategic role families play in the country’s construction and development.

In her official statement, Nassénéba Touré, Minister of Women, Family and Children, strongly emphasized that “no nation can be strong without strong families.” However, she also pointed out the persistent vulnerabilities faced by many households, weakened by economic and social realities.

To provide a concrete response to these challenges, the Directorate for Family Promotion has launched the innovative “Family Granary” project. This initiative, introduced as part of the Family Month activities, aims to mobilize businesses, partners, and citizens around a large-scale food donation campaign intended to support the most vulnerable households.

The “Family Granary” project is also a call for collective mobilization involving public institutions, private stakeholders, and citizens alike. “Behind every supported family lies the future of the Nation,” the minister stressed, reaffirming the ambition of building a stronger and more united Côte d’Ivoire.

The pilot phase will run throughout this month in several municipalities of the Autonomous District of Abidjan, including Attécoubé, Abobo, Yopougon, Koumassi, and Port-Bouët, before being gradually expanded across the entire national territory.

At the same time, Family Month will feature several community-based activities, including awareness campaigns, community meetings, and sports events. This approach reflects the government’s determination to bring public action closer to the people.
