Côte d’Ivoire and Algeria Strengthen Their Energy Partnership

As part of a renewed spirit of South-South cooperation, Côte d’Ivoire and Algeria have committed to revitalizing their partnership in the energy sector. The announcement was made on Monday, June 29, 2026, in Abidjan by the Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, following a meeting with the Prime Minister of Côte d’Ivoire, Robert Beugré Mambé, attended by the Ivorian Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly.

“My visit is part of the positive momentum that has characterized our bilateral relations in recent months. Our objective is to strengthen and expand cooperation in the fields of energy and renewable energy in order to achieve our continent’s energy development goals and move toward greater energy independence,” stated Mohamed Arkab.

The discussions focused on opportunities for cooperation in electricity generation, transmission and distribution, as well as the manufacturing of electrical equipment and capacity building through training. The aim is to support Côte d’Ivoire in meeting its growing energy needs.

The Algerian Minister of State expressed his satisfaction with the constructive dialogue held with the Ivorian authorities. “I am delighted to be in Abidjan today to take the first concrete step toward a stronger energy partnership between our two countries through the signing of a government agreement on energy and renewable energies, which will provide the framework for our future cooperation,” he said.

Côte d’Ivoire’s energy sector is among the most dynamic and high-performing in West Africa, with a national electricity access rate exceeding 94%. This achievement reflects a consistent energy policy and sustained strategic investment in the sector, positioning the country as a regional energy hub and a model for the African continent.
