Côte d’Ivoire and UNICEF Launch 2026-2030 Cooperation Programme to Boost Child Development

The implementation of the Côte d’Ivoire-UNICEF Cooperation Programme (CPD) for the period 2026-2030 is estimated at 88.8 billion FCFA, revealed the Minister of Planning and Development, Souleymane Diarrassouba.

He made the announcement during the launch of the programme on Monday, February 9, 2026, in Abidjan.

The programme’s priorities for 2026-2030 focus on child protection, health, water, hygiene and sanitation, nutrition, education, social policies and inclusion, as well as adolescents and youth.

According to the minister, the cooperation programme between the Government of Côte d’Ivoire and UNICEF provides a major strategic framework that places children at the heart of national priorities. It aims not only to sustainably improve child survival and development but also to ensure their protection from all forms of violence and to strengthen their active participation in social and civic life.

Souleymane Diarrassouba emphasized that the new 2026-2030 programme aligns perfectly with the National Development Plan (PND 2026-2030) and represents a powerful lever to accelerate human development.

The UNICEF Representative in Côte d’Ivoire, Jean-François Basse, recalled the significant achievements of the 2021-2025 CPD. Three million children under the age of one were registered in the civil registry through the interoperability system. In terms of nutrition, 4.5 million children received vitamin A supplementation each year.

In the health sector, 4,270 premature babies survived thanks to kangaroo mother care interventions. In education, 7,851 out-of-school children returned to school with direct support from UNICEF. In youth engagement and inclusion, nearly 500,000 young people received technical and vocational training.

He called on sector stakeholders to ensure collective ownership for effective implementation of the programme.
