On Monday, December 22, 2025, the Ivorian Minister of Interior and Security, Vagondo Diomandé, the Japanese Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, H.E. Junji Gomakubo, and the Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Côte d’Ivoire, David Preux, signed and launched a new project titled “Strengthening Border Management Capacities in Côte d’Ivoire” in Abidjan-Plateau.
Implemented by the IOM over a two-year period and funded by the Government of Japan, the project aims to strengthen the State’s operational presence in the Bounkani and Tchologo regions through improved infrastructure and operational capacities for integrated border management. The initiative will also support mechanisms for preventing conflicts related to transhumance and natural resource use, enhancing community resilience to security challenges and promoting stability in border areas.
Planned activities under the project include the construction and equipping of a border police post, a mixed police station, a customs control office, and a transhumance post; training for police and customs officers; and the organization of cross-border meetings.
This initiative reflects the continuation of a strong, consistent, and strategic partnership between Côte d’Ivoire, Japan, and the IOM, promoting safe, humane, and orderly migration.
