Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon and France are preparing to conduct a joint military exercise, known as FANGHA, from November 7 to 14, 2026, in Côte d’Ivoire, as the three countries seek to strengthen military cooperation and improve their ability to respond to regional security threats.
The exercise will take place in Jacqueville, Yamoussoukro and Bouaké, bringing together military personnel from the three participating countries. It forms part of the 2026 Multinational Joint Exercise (GEX 26), a broader military cooperation programme.
The manoeuvres will involve land, air and naval forces, with training focused on operational coordination, interoperability and joint command procedures. The exercise will also address security challenges, including terrorism and cross-border threats.
Preparations began on March 31, 2026, in Abidjan, during an initial planning conference involving military representatives from Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon and France. Further planning discussions were held in Libreville, Gabon, from September 22 to 24 to finalise operational arrangements.
France is expected to provide support, while African partner forces will take the lead in the exercise, according to statements made during the planning process by French military officials.
In a statement issued on November 4, the Ivorian military's General Staff warned residents of the areas concerned about increased movements of troops, military vehicles, naval vessels and aircraft during the exercise. Some activities may also generate noise disturbances.
The multinational manoeuvres reflect continued military cooperation between the three countries as they seek to strengthen their operational capabilities and coordination in addressing evolving security challenges across the region.
