On the sidelines of the 12th Coastal and Marine Regional Forum (FOMACO), held on April 28, 2026, in Nouakchott, Mauritania, Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, Abou Bamba, and the Executive Director of the Regional Partnership for Coastal and Marine Conservation in West Africa (PRCM), Ahmed Senhoury, signed a framework agreement aimed at strengthening policies and strategies for the sustainable management of the country’s coastal zones.
The partnership notably provides for the conservation of marine and coastal biodiversity, improved management of marine protected areas, and the fight against various forms of pollution, including oil spills and plastic waste.
The agreement also emphasizes the conduct of environmental studies for coastal infrastructure projects, efforts to address climate change, and the strengthening of resilience among coastal communities in Côte d’Ivoire.
Through this cooperation, both parties aim to promote research, scientific exchanges, and capacity building among stakeholders.
The initiative reflects a shared commitment to addressing environmental challenges affecting coastal areas, including human pressure, the impacts of climate change, and the ongoing degradation of natural resources.
