AERIA, the company responsible for managing and operating the Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport, announced that the airport experienced a major power outage on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
In an official statement released on May 18, 2026, the structure explained that all electrical supply lines serving the airport platform were interrupted, causing disruptions to services provided to travelers and other airport users.
According to AERIA, emergency backup systems were immediately activated to ensure the continuity of airport operations. However, one of the backup devices, which had already been heavily used in recent weeks, was unable to maintain its usual level of operation.
The incident resulted in disruptions to several airport services, although the company did not specify the exact extent of the impact on flights and passenger operations.
Following the incident, technical teams and relevant institutions mobilized rapidly to restore normal operating conditions within the shortest possible time.
AERIA confirmed that all airport facilities and operations are now functioning normally.
The company also apologized to passengers and users for the inconvenience caused and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the continuity and quality of services at Abidjan’s international airport.
