Côte d’Ivoire: Friday, March 20 Declared Public Holiday for Eid al-Fitr 2026

The Ivorian government has officially declared Friday, March 20, 2026, a public holiday, non-working and paid across the entire national territory, in observance of the end of Ramadan, commonly known as Eid al-Fitr. The announcement was made through a statement issued by the Ministry of Employment, Social Protection and Vocational Training on March 18, 2026.

According to the document signed by Minister Me Adama Kamara, the decision is in line with the implementation of Decree No. 2011-371 of November 4, 2011, which amends and supplements the provisions of Decree No. 96-205 of March 7, 1996, relating to the determination of public holidays in Côte d’Ivoire. As such, this day marking the end of the Muslim fasting month will be observed as an official day of rest for workers.

The statement also specifies that for signatories of the Interprofessional Collective Agreement of July 20, 1977, the provisions of Article 64 apply. In this regard, Eid al-Fitr is not only recognized as a public holiday but also as a non-working and paid day, thereby guaranteeing the rights of the workers concerned.

This measure allows Muslim faithful to celebrate this important religious holiday in peace, with their families and in accordance with traditions. It also contributes to promoting social cohesion and respect for religious beliefs in Côte d’Ivoire, a country known for its cultural and religious diversity.

Through this decision, the authorities reaffirm their commitment to the values of tolerance, social cohesion, and solidarity, in line with the republican principles that underpin the Ivorian nation.
