Commissioned in June 2023, the La Mé drinking water treatment plant is a strategic infrastructure for water supply in the Abidjan District. It is the first facility of this scale dedicated to serving the economic capital and its surrounding areas.
Located in Kongofon, in the sub-prefecture of Brofodoumé near Alépé, the plant covers an area of eight hectares.
The facility has a production capacity of 240,000 cubic meters of water per day, significantly increasing the supply of drinking water.
“The commissioning of this facility has considerably improved water distribution in the Abidjan District. More than one million households are now supplied by this plant, which also contributes to improving the quality of distributed water,” explained Kobenan Koffi, Head of Service at the station.
The project includes a water intake structure from the river, a treatment unit, pipelines, and two water towers with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters each.
This achievement is part of a broader national strategy aimed at ensuring sustainable access to safe drinking water in sufficient quantities, strengthening water supply in cities across the country, reducing shortages, and sustainably improving household living conditions both in the Abidjan District and throughout the country.
