Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline by network and fleet size, reported revenue of $9.1 billion for the 2025/2026 financial year, marking a 20% increase compared with the previous year as the carrier continues its international expansion.

The airline transported 20.7 million passengers during the period, up 10% year-on-year, while its cargo operations handled 897,000 tonnes of freight, an increase of 16%, according to figures released by the company.

Ethiopian Airlines expanded its global network to around 150 international destinations, strengthening Addis Ababa’s position as one of Africa’s leading aviation hubs and a key connection point between Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

The strong performance came despite operational challenges linked to geopolitical tensions, including disruptions caused by conflicts in the Middle East and restrictions affecting some routes. The company said it continued to adapt its operations while maintaining growth momentum.

The airline is also accelerating investments in fleet expansion and aviation infrastructure to support rising demand. Ethiopian Airlines has been expanding its long-haul capabilities with modern aircraft and strengthening its cargo operations, which have become a major source of growth for the group.

The latest results reinforce Ethiopian Airlines’ position as one of Africa’s most successful aviation companies, at a time when many carriers on the continent continue to face financial and operational challenges.

The state-owned airline has made Addis Ababa a major international hub and has positioned itself as a key player in connecting African markets with global trade and travel networks.
