Francophonie: OIF Secretary General Louise Mushikiwabo Hails Côte d’Ivoire as a Model Country for Its Engagement

Côte d’Ivoire is considered a model country within the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) thanks to its active participation not only in decision-making bodies but also in all activities, said the Secretary General of the OIF, Louise Mushikiwabo. She made the statement after being received by the Minister of Culture and Francophonie, Françoise Remarck, on Monday, September 29, 2025, in Abidjan-Plateau.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 13th edition of the Economic Forum of the General Confederation of Enterprises of Côte d’Ivoire (CGECI Academy), in which Mushikiwabo also took part.

“Côte d’Ivoire, within the OIF, has the same dynamism that exists in the country itself. I would like to commend this beautiful country, which represents for us a truly exemplary collaborator and partner. I am confident that we still have much to accomplish together, and I have no doubt that we will continue to advance the well-being of our people,” said Mushikiwabo.

During the meeting, the OIF Secretary General was presented with two women-led projects supported by her institution through the program “La Francophonie avec elles.”

These include the implementation of the initiative “Dissemination and Promotion of Clean Cooking Technologies” and “Empowerment and Climate Change Adaptation” by the women’s cooperative for vegetable production in the village of Nondjoni, Dianra sub-prefecture, in the Mankono department.

She praised the execution of these projects, which positively impact the daily lives of hundreds of women, and pledged to continue advocating for increased funding. According to her, beyond its international actions, the OIF is committed to improving the well-being of citizens, particularly women and youth.

In addition, Louise Mushikiwabo was briefed on the major activities carried out by the National Commission of La Francophonie (CNF), the Market for African Performing Arts of Abidjan (MASA), and the implementation of Reading and Cultural Animation Centers (CLAC) across Côte d’Ivoire.

She recalled that the collaboration between the OIF and Côte d’Ivoire is particularly strong in the field of cultural industries and film production, especially through the MASA platform.

For her part, Minister Françoise Remarck praised the multifaceted support that the OIF continues to provide to Côte d’Ivoire.

“You have placed women at the heart of your ambition. Youth and cultural diversity are also key issues in your policy. Under your leadership, La Francophonie has taken a historic turn: from a linguistic and cultural space, it has become a major player in sustainable development, integrating essential challenges such as digital technology, the environment, education, cultural and artistic diversity, as well as the promotion of languages,” she explained.
