The government is taking action in the northern border areas to reduce fragility and counter the terrorist threat.
As part of efforts to improve access to safe drinking water, between 2022 and 2024, 1,633 hand-operated water pumps were repaired, 8,082 were maintained, 74 were replaced, and 50 boreholes were drilled.
“Before, we had to walk several kilometers to reach the marsh. It was very exhausting, and the water was unsafe and made us sick. With the pumps installed in the village, our lives have truly changed,” said Tata Bakayoko, a student in the Bagoué region.
In the electricity sector, 291 localities were connected to the power grid.
“Drinking cold water like in the city and having electricity 24/7 means that development has reached our community. The village is no longer isolated,” said Mamadou Sidibé, a community leader in Soukouraba, in the Folon region.
Overall, 66,905 young people benefited from support programs, including 64,985 through employment and integration schemes and 1,920 under the civic service program.
“I received support of one million CFA francs from the State. Thanks to this assistance, I moved from being a spare parts seller to owning a small garage. Today, this activity allows me to support myself,” said Daouda Bamba, a mechanic in Bouna, in the Bounkani region.
Through these targeted actions, the government reaffirms its commitment to strengthening social cohesion, fighting poverty, and sustainably reducing the factors of fragility in border areas.
