The High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA), in partnership with Meta, organized a multi-stakeholder roundtable on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Abidjan-Plateau, focused on the protection of minors online in Côte d’Ivoire.

The high-level meeting brought together institutional and professional stakeholders to address issues related to children’s safety in the digital space. At the opening, Me René Bourgoin stressed the urgent need to build a safer digital environment for children and adolescents amid the growing use of social networks and digital platforms. He called for stronger cooperation between public institutions, regulators, digital platforms, and families to develop consensus-based Media, Information, and Digital Citizenship Education (EMI-Cn) programs.

For her part, Balkissa Idé Siddo, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for Africa, presented the objectives of the roundtable as well as the company’s commitments and tools aimed at strengthening the protection of minors on social networks.

Discussions covered several key topics, including the overall child protection framework in Côte d’Ivoire, digital trends and their impact on African youth, platform-based protection tools, personal data protection for minors, and the national legal framework governing content regulation and online child safety.

The meeting concluded with an interactive panel where stakeholders shared experiences, concerns, and practical recommendations to enhance child protection in the digital environment.

In a context marked by the rapid growth of digital usage among children and adolescents, HACA intends to intensify its prevention and awareness efforts on online safety.
