Intercity Mobility: Rehabilitation of the Côtière Enhances Abidjan–San Pedro Link

Long degraded, the Côtière, a strategic route connecting Abidjan to San Pedro in the southwest, is undergoing major rehabilitation works initiated by the government.

This renovation is already improving intercity mobility and contributing to the country’s economic development. Stretching 353.5 kilometers, the Côtière serves as a crucial corridor for the transport of people and goods.

The works aim to improve road surface quality, enhance traffic safety, and significantly reduce travel time, which had long been affected by the road’s deteriorated condition.

Thanks to these improvements, road users now enjoy smoother and more comfortable travel, facilitating economic exchanges and helping to open up the San Pedro region.

“Now we can travel from Abidjan to Méagui via the Côtière without going through Gagnoa. The journey now takes only four hours,” said Bertin Moukoro, a truck driver.

“The poor condition of the road caused many breakdowns. Today, we travel more safely and trips are made under much better conditions,” added Patrice Ouédraogo, a merchant.

The Côtière passes through towns such as Dabou, Grand-Lahou, and Sassandra, and links two of Côte d’Ivoire’s main ports: the Autonomous Port of Abidjan and the Autonomous Port of San Pedro, one of the world’s leading cocoa-exporting ports.

These road renovation projects are part of the major national road modernization efforts, aimed at giving a new boost to the country’s economic and social development.
