On June 29, 2026, the Angré University Hospital Center (CHU d’Angré) welcomed a high-level delegation led by Professor Stéphane Verguet, a distinguished faculty member and health economist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
The purpose of the visit was to support the Ivorian government's ongoing efforts to improve hospital management, enhance the efficiency of the healthcare system, and strengthen the capacities of Ivorian professionals in the field of public health.
During their visit, the delegation toured the hospital’s Medical Biology Department, Medical Imaging Department, and the Internal Medicine and Geriatrics Department.
The event was chaired by Dr. Koffi Aka, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Health, accompanied by Dr. Bernard Ehui, Technical Advisor.
The guided tour highlighted the CHU d’Angré’s technical capabilities, hospital organization, and the expertise of its medical, paramedical, and technical teams. Discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration between CHU d’Angré and Harvard University, particularly in the areas of clinical research, capacity building, healthcare professional training, health economics, and the continuous improvement of healthcare quality.
"Our hospital receives an average of 50,000 patients each year. Our ambition is to provide every patient with high-quality care that meets the highest standards. To achieve this, our institution is organized into ten departments, structured around specialized units to ensure optimal patient care. Thanks to the support of the Minister of Health, we now have a high-performance technical platform that matches our ambitions and further strengthens the expertise and know-how of our medical and healthcare teams," said Director General Dr. Moussa Diabaté.
The Director General also presented how the Universal Health Coverage (CMU) scheme operates within CHU d’Angré.
"For a CT scan costing CFA 100,000, a patient covered by the Universal Health Coverage (CMU) scheme pays only 30% of the total cost, or CFA 30,000. This financial support significantly reduces out-of-pocket expenses and improves patients’ access to healthcare," he explained.
Professor Stéphane Verguet praised the scheme, describing it as a guarantee of transparency. He emphasized that patients can clearly see the tangible benefits of enrolling in the CMU through the substantial reduction in their healthcare expenses.
