Ivorian Government Suspends “Galaxy Energy” Over Consumer Safety Concerns

The Ivorian government has suspended the production and distribution of the energy drink “Galaxy Energy” following concerns over its non-compliance with consumer safety regulations.

According to a statement released on May 17, 2026, by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Handicrafts, investigations were launched after a citizen alert circulated on social media regarding the sale of a low-cost energy drink that was easily accessible to children.

The inspections, conducted by the Directorate of Metrology, Fraud Control and Quality Monitoring, identified both the product and its manufacturer. Authorities subsequently ordered the suspension of production, the nationwide recall of the product from distribution networks, as well as the seizure and destruction of all non-compliant energy drinks across the country.

However, the ministry noted that the company involved had already halted production on May 1, 2026, pending compliance measures, following earlier sanctions imposed on a similar operator in February 2026.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Handicrafts reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening awareness campaigns, monitoring, inspections and enforcement actions against practices that could endanger consumers. The public was also urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or non-compliant products through the ministry’s toll-free number, 1343.
