Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema has arrived in Abidjan for an official visit at the invitation of President Alassane Ouattara to attend celebrations marking Côte d'Ivoire's 66th Independence Day.

As the guest of honour for the August 7 celebrations, Oligui Nguema will take part in the official ceremonies taking place this year in Yopougon. The event is being held under the theme, “Defence and Security Forces in the Service of Peace, Unity and Development,” highlighting the role of the country's security institutions in promoting stability and national development.

The visit reflects the strengthening of ties between Côte d'Ivoire and Gabon. The two countries cooperate in several areas, including trade, security and regional integration, while maintaining close diplomatic relations within African regional organizations.

Oligui Nguema's presence in Abidjan also underscores the commitment of both leaders to deepen bilateral cooperation at a time when many African countries are facing security and economic challenges. The Independence Day celebrations are expected to provide an opportunity to reaffirm their shared commitment to regional stability and development.
