Refugee Influx in Côte d’Ivoire: More Than 115,000 Asylum Seekers Registered

Meeting on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Presidential Palace, the National Security Council reviewed the situation regarding the influx of refugees arriving from neighboring countries, notably Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, and Ghana.

The Council reported a significant increase in the number of refugees from these countries, bringing the total number of registered asylum seekers in Côte d’Ivoire to more than 115,000.

In response to this notable rise, the Executive Secretary of the National Security Council has been instructed to continue coordinating the biometric registration of refugees as well as humanitarian assistance efforts, in line with Côte d’Ivoire’s international commitments, with support from partners and the international community.

This assistance targets both asylum seekers and the Ivorian host communities receiving them. It also includes the organization of voluntary returns to countries of origin when conditions allow.

According to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, as of November 2024, Côte d’Ivoire was hosting approximately 66,146 registered asylum seekers.
