At the launch of the rehabilitation works of the Yamoussoukro Scientific High School on September 29, 2025, the Minister of National Education and Literacy, Mariatou Koné, reaffirmed the government’s determination to place scientific education back at the core of Côte d’Ivoire’s development.
“The rehabilitation of the scientific high school is not only about restoring walls, roofs, and laboratories. It also symbolizes President Alassane Ouattara’s strong political will to reposition scientific education at the heart of our nation’s development,” declared Mariatou Koné.
This renovation project aims not only to restore existing infrastructure but also to restore the school’s former prestige and reposition it as a hub of scientific excellence.
According to the Minister of Education, the rehabilitation will include the renovation of classrooms and dormitories, upgrading of science laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment, the creation of modern digital spaces, improvements in sanitation, and the strengthening of water and electricity systems, among other works.
The goal, she emphasized, is to provide students and staff with a living and working environment conducive to intellectual growth, research, and innovation.
Upon completion, the school will be able to host 2,000 students—compared to its current capacity of 750—within its renovated facilities. The establishment will also house preparatory classes for the Félix Houphouët-Boigny National Polytechnic Institute (INP-HB) and the National Center for Scientific Equipment (CNMS), which will be upgraded into the National Center for Scientific Development (CNDS).
Founded in 1975, this emblematic institution has educated 52,000 students. The rehabilitation works will last 30 months, with an estimated cost of over 28 billion CFA francs.
