Accompanied by Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Transport, Amadou Koné, the French Minister Delegate to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Eléonore Caroit, carried out a visit on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, to the construction site of Line 1 of the Abidjan Metro.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Ivorian Minister of Transport, Amadou Koné, who is giving us the opportunity to discover this cooperation project in urban mobility—one of our priorities for sustainable and inclusive development,” stated Eléonore Caroit.
Eléonore Caroit expressed France’s pride in investing in this project, which represents both a transfer of expertise and, above all, job creation in Côte d’Ivoire. According to her, this major infrastructure project, which includes 24 stations, is of significant importance for both France and Côte d’Ivoire, as it will allow the transport of more than 180 million people per year.
For his part, Minister of Transport Amadou Koné announced that Line 1 of the Abidjan Metro, which spans a total of 37.4 km, is generating 4,000 jobs. He indicated that the project, which will extend from Anyama to Port-Bouët, aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the city of Abidjan and meet the growing needs of its population. He also highlighted that a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network will link Yopougon to Bingerville, thereby enhancing the public transport offering in the economic capital.
The commissioning of Line 1 is expected by the end of 2028, the minister added, emphasizing that this infrastructure marks a crucial step toward a smoother and more modern urban transport network.
