Representing the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs, technical advisor Kadjo N’guetta officially launched the Project for the Restructuring of the Collective Transport Network of Greater Abidjan (PRRTC-GA) on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in Cocody, Abidjan.
This ambitious initiative aims to deeply transform the public transport system, making it more efficient, modern, and better aligned with the rapid growth of Côte d’Ivoire’s economic capital.
A multi-stakeholder launch
The ceremony was attended by the Director General of the Urban Mobility Authority of Greater Abidjan (AMUGA), Romain Kouakou, along with numerous sector stakeholders, including representatives of public administrations, local authorities, transport operators, and technical and financial partners.
A strategic urban mobility project
Led by the Ministry of Transport through AMUGA, the PRRTC-GA is part of major urban mobility projects in Greater Abidjan. It supports, in particular:
· The implementation of Metro Line 1
· The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line connecting Yopougon to Bingerville
These projects are considered the backbone of the future multimodal transport system, in line with the Greater Abidjan Urban Master Plan (SDUGA).
Moving from fragmentation to integration
With the upcoming commissioning of these mass transport infrastructures, a deep restructuring of the current system is required.
The objective is to move from a fragmented and poorly regulated system to a structured, hierarchical, and fully integrated model.
According to the representative of Minister Amadou Koné, the challenge goes beyond infrastructure delivery. It is about redesigning the entire mobility system to ensure seamless integration between transport modes and improved access for populations, particularly in peripheral and fast-growing urban areas.
He called for strong mobilization and active participation from all stakeholders to ensure the success of the project.
Government commitment and governance
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fully support the implementation of the PRRTC-GA, particularly through resource mobilization, institutional strengthening, and sector reforms.
A vision for a modern and inclusive city
For his part, Romain Kouakou explained that the meeting aimed to provide detailed information on the project while collecting feedback and ensuring stakeholder ownership, both essential for its success.
He emphasized that the PRRTC-GA goes beyond a technical project and reflects a broader societal vision: a modern, accessible, inclusive, and competitive Greater Abidjan, where all citizens can travel safely, with dignity and efficiency, regardless of their place of residence or income level.
