Food Security: Government Launches Programs to Improve Agricultural Production

In several regions across the country, the government is implementing support programs for local farmers with the goal of boosting their production to strengthen food security in Côte d'Ivoire.

In the Tiassalé department, cassava producers in Gbolouville and Akoudjé benefited from the “Parc à bois” project. Cassava cuttings were provided to them for mass production. This initiative is part of the Government Social Program Support Project (PaPsgouv), which aims to produce 80,000 tons of cassava in the long term to contribute to the country’s food security.

“We received cuttings and decameters, which allowed us to produce up to 4 hectares of cassava this year,” explained Sidy Bayanou.

In Balakro, in the Bélier region, members of the Vegetable Growers Association received 8 hectares of input kits and agricultural equipment to produce eggplants, peppers, and tomatoes. Within a year, this support has enabled farmers to double their production.

“The government provided us with everything needed for complete production. Inputs are expensive on the market, so receiving them for free is a huge relief,” said Ben Soumahoro, president of the association.

From January 2023 to June 2024, over 12,000 tons of vegetables were produced and sold in the Ivorian market as part of the Government Social Program Support Project (PaPsgouv).
