́The deployment of buses by the Abidjan Transport Company (SOTRA) is helping improve urban mobility in several cities across Côte d’Ivoire.
In Bouaké, the country’s second most populated city, located about 340 km from Abidjan, the arrival of these buses has gradually changed the daily travel habits of residents.
Passengers now benefit from more affordable fares and a more regular service, making daily transportation easier and less expensive.
“This is a very economical way to move around. I recharge my card once a month and can travel easily across the city,” said Augustin N’Da, a student at Bouaké University.
For student Assiata Samaké, the bus system is a real cost-saving solution: “Where a taxi would cost me 1,000 FCFA per trip, with 3,000 FCFA I can travel for the whole month.”
Beyond cost savings, safety is also a major advantage. “I feel safer in the bus compared to the motorcycle taxis I used before,” said Nicodème Kouadio.
After Bouaké, the SOTRA network has expanded to Yamoussoukro, Korhogo, and San Pedro.
This expansion is improving urban mobility in inland cities while strengthening transport accessibility, creating jobs, and boosting local economic activity.
