Africa50 targets $20 billion infrastructure portfolio by 2031
Pan-African infrastructure investment platform Africa50 aims to increase the value of infrastructure projects in which it co-invests to at least $20 billion by 2031, from around $9 billion currently, as it seeks to expand its role in financing projects across the continent.
Africa50’s portfolio includes projects in key sectors such as energy, transport, logistics and digital infrastructure. The platform works with governments, development institutions and private investors to mobilize capital for large-scale infrastructure projects.
The targeted increase would more than double the current value of projects supported through Africa50’s investments and co-investments.
The fund has backed major infrastructure initiatives across Africa, including power generation, electricity transmission, transport and digital infrastructure. Its investment model is designed to attract additional public and private capital to projects that require significant long-term financing.
Africa50’s expansion comes as African countries face a persistent infrastructure financing gap, particularly in energy and transport, while seeking to accelerate economic growth and regional integration.
By 2031, the platform aims to significantly increase the scale of infrastructure projects it helps finance and strengthen its position as a catalyst for private investment across Africa.
