Côte d’Ivoire to launch national data center by 2027
Côte d’Ivoire plans to put into service a national public data center by 2027, a project designed to strengthen the security of government data and reduce the country’s dependence on external digital infrastructure.
The facility, expected to be located at the VITIB technology park in Grand-Bassam, is being developed with support from U.S. technology company Cybastion Institute of Technology and financing backed by the U.S. Export-Import Bank.
The U.S. EXIM Bank approved a $66 million financing guarantee for the project. The funding is intended to support the construction and deployment of the national data center and related digital infrastructure.
The project is expected to become a key hub for Côte d’Ivoire’s government digital systems, providing secure infrastructure for the storage and management of public-sector data.
According to project information reported in Côte d’Ivoire, the facility is expected to have 228 IT racks and around 10 petabytes of storage capacity. It is also designed to provide about 1.73 megawatts of power for IT equipment, with total electrical capacity of around 3 megawatts.
The infrastructure is expected to meet Tier III or higher standards, reflecting requirements for reliability, redundancy and continuity of service.
Beyond its technical capacity, the project has a broader strategic objective. Côte d’Ivoire is seeking to strengthen its digital sovereignty by ensuring that sensitive government data can be hosted and protected within national infrastructure.
The initiative comes as the Ivorian government accelerates the digitalization of public services, including the development of digital administrative platforms and the modernization of government information systems.
For Washington, the project also represents an opportunity to support U.S. technology exports and strengthen cooperation with Côte d’Ivoire in the digital sector.
The data center is therefore expected to play a strategic role in Côte d’Ivoire’s digital transformation, providing infrastructure for government services while improving data security and resilience.
If completed according to the current timetable, the facility would become an important component of the country’s digital infrastructure by 2027, as Abidjan seeks to position Côte d’Ivoire as a regional technology and digital-services hub.
