Opened on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand, the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group have provided an opportunity for the Minister of Economy, Finance and Budget, Adama Coulibaly, head of the Ivorian delegation, to hold numerous discussions with international financial partners. These meetings were notably marked by remarks from IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, who praised Côte d’Ivoire’s remarkable economic recovery. Citing the country as an example, she particularly highlighted its ability to recover following a civil war that had severely devastated its economy.
This international recognition was expressed during the G24 ministerial meeting, chaired by Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, and attended by Paschal Donohoe, Managing Director of the World Bank Group. It reinforces Côte d’Ivoire’s economic trajectory and reflects the progress the country has made in strengthening its economic fundamentals and implementing structural reforms.
On Wednesday, October 14, Minister Adama Coulibaly also took part in a meeting between finance ministers of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and the IMF. Discussions focused on global, African and subregional economic outlooks in an environment shaped by geopolitical tensions, disruptions to energy prices and maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the effects of climate change, particularly the El Niño phenomenon.
Minister Adama Coulibaly also led discussions with the U.S. Treasury as part of efforts to strengthen financial and economic cooperation with Côte d’Ivoire’s partners.
In another sign of confidence, the Ivorian delegation was invited to share its experience in managing project portfolios. This request reflects international recognition of Côte d’Ivoire’s expertise and the results achieved in implementing development projects.
