Ivory Coast coach Émerse Faé was crowned "African Coach of the Year 2024" at the CAF Awards 2024 ceremony, held on December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco. The Ivorian national team manager triumphed over Hugo Broos (South Africa) and Sébastien Desabre (DR Congo) to take home the prestigious award.
Appointed as the coach of the Elephants of Ivory Coast in January 2024 after the dismissal of Jean-Louis Gasset, Émerse Faé managed to transform a struggling team into a winning machine. He led his team to a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), securing Ivory Coast's third continental title.
Born in Nantes, France, Émerse Faé began his professional career at his hometown club before making a name for himself at Reading in England and at OGC Nice. With 44 caps for the Ivorian national team, he made history in his country’s football legacy. His playing career was cut short in 2012 due to health issues, after which he shifted his focus to coaching.
Émerse Faé is known for his innovative tactical approach and his ability to motivate players. During the 2023 AFCON, he maximized his squad’s potential, with his decisions often proving decisive. "This award is recognition for all the hard work done by my team and me. I dedicate it to Côte d'Ivoire and everyone who believes in me," said Faé upon receiving his trophy.
With the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, all eyes are now on this promising young coach, who represents the future of African football.
