During his 2025 presidential campaign, the candidate of the Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), Alassane Ouattara, made a solemn and deeply symbolic stop in Yamoussoukro.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Head of State paid tribute to the memory of Côte d’Ivoire’s first president, Félix Houphouët-Boigny. “Yes, we came to bow before President Houphouët’s tomb to ask for his blessing and to tell him that Côte d’Ivoire remains grateful for all he did for our country,” said an emotional Alassane Ouattara.

The incumbent president praised the immense legacy of the man he calls the father of the Ivorian nation. He recalled that Houphouët-Boigny’s vision of peace, unity, and development continues to guide the RHDP and inspire his leadership.

“We asked him to watch over Côte d’Ivoire, to ensure that our nation remains on the path of peace and prosperity, and to remember all he did for me and for our country,” added the RHDP candidate.
