1941, Société Générale establishes itself in Côte d’Ivoire

For its establishment in Côte d’Ivoire, Société Générale chose Abidjan, the country's main transit and distribution center. It set up three points of sale in Abidjan: its headquarters and branch in Abidjan-Plateau, and its office in Abidjan-Marine in Treichville.

1962, creation of SGBCI, a new turning point...

Following the declaration of Independence of Côte d’Ivoire, there was a strong wave of innovation in banking institutions. Société Générale undertook a profound transformation of its Ivorian branch, which had been open since 1941. It strengthened its resources by acquiring the 3 branches operated by Banque Commerciale Africaine, which it purchased on July 15, 1962, in Daloa, Gagnoa, and Dimbokro. This led to the creation of a new entity, Société Générale de Banques en Côte d’Ivoire, on November 23, 1962. This marked the beginning of the bank's new journey.

1965, inauguration of the headquarters building...

To enhance coordination of its operations, in 1963 the decision was made to construct a new building. This was the first major post-colonial development in the Plateau district, carried out in collaboration with Air Afrique. On November 12, 1965, the building was inaugurated by His Excellency President Félix HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY. On behalf of the Government, Mr. Alcide KACOU acknowledged SGBCI’s contribution to commercial and industrial life, the development of the country, and the marketing of its agricultural products.

1977, expansion of the branch network...

From its inception, SGBCI began a continuous expansion which by 1977 had grown to 29 branches. Today, the bank operates over 100 branches across Côte d’Ivoire and continues to expand its network with new branch openings.

1983, opening of the Vridi complex...

In addition to the main branch in Plateau, whose customer reception area was doubled in 1978 with a new building, construction began on a branch in Vridi. The Vridi complex, with its modern and functional architecture, is a significant real estate project housing a branch spanning over 5,000 square meters of usable space as well as central services.

1996 to 2000, diversification of the bank’s activities...

Sogebourse, now SOCIETE GENERALE CAPITAL SECURITIES WEST AFRICA, was established in 1997. As a subsidiary of Société Générale Côte d'Ivoire, it is one of the leading Securities and Investment firms (SGI) among the twenty-five (25) active on the Regional Financial Market.

In 1999, SOCIÉTÉ GÉNÉRALE CÔTE D'IVOIRE became the first Custodian Bank, combining its SGI Broker's License, to implement the policy of separating brokerage/financial advisory activities and those of Custody.

2005, change in SGBCI's visual identity...

The logo adopted by SGBCI from its inception was inspired by the tradition of stylized Akan weights. In 2005, SGBCI abandoned its initial logo, aligning itself with the identity of the Société Générale Group.

2016, launch of the trading floor...

Initially covering the group's subsidiaries in West Africa within the UEMOA zone, the trading floor later expanded its activities to the CEMAC zone and the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa. Its primary focus is on foreign exchange.

The group aims to be the trusted partner of its clients and contribute positively to the transformation of societies and economies in the countries where it operates. 2019, launch of the RISE roadmap and change of legal and commercial name...

In 2019, Société Générale de Banques en Côte d’Ivoire launched its 5-year transformation plan. The bank announced its change of legal and commercial name to Société Générale Côte d’Ivoire. This evolution reflects the bank's commitment, as a leader in Côte d’Ivoire and the UEMOA zone, to fully embrace the vision of the Société Générale Group. This name change coincides with an evolution in the brand's signature. Moving from "Let's develop team spirit together" to a new promise: "It's you the future." Through this signature, SOCIÉTÉ GÉNÉRALE COTE D’IVOIRE reaffirms to its clients their importance and its purpose: "the trusted partner, committed to everyone, for the development of Côte d’Ivoire."
