Abidjan Military Hospital(HMA)

The Abidjan Military Hospital, built in 1980, was established to accommodate Ivorian army personnel and their families. It is one of the two military hospitals in Côte d'Ivoire, playing a crucial role in providing healthcare services to military and civilian populations alike.

Initially located at Le Plateau in Abidjan, the institution was known as the Abidjan Garrison Infirmary (IGA) until 1984. At that time, it operated with a small team of 5 doctors, including a surgeon, focusing on providing essential medical care to its primary clientele.

In 1984, the institution was relocated to a new, more spacious site on the Abobo-Adjamé axis, opposite the Abidjan Zoo. This move aimed to provide a better environment and facilities for its operations. With the relocation, the institution was renamed the Centre Médical des Armées (CMA), and expanded its services to include new specialties such as ophthalmology and radiology, significantly broadening its scope of medical care.

By 1995, due to the increasing number of specialist doctors and the expanding range of services, the CMA evolved into the Hôpital Militaire d'Abidjan (HMA). This transition marked its development into a fully-fledged hospital capable of handling a wider array of medical needs.

Today, the Abidjan Military Hospital is equipped with high-performance technical facilities, enabling it to meet the healthcare needs of not only military personnel and their families but also the general population. Its advanced capabilities and comprehensive medical services help alleviate the burden on Abidjan's university hospitals, providing essential healthcare and emergency services to the community.

The hospital's strategic location and modern infrastructure make it an invaluable asset to the surrounding population. It offers a wide range of medical specialties, including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, orthopedics, cardiology, and emergency care. Additionally, the hospital is involved in various public health initiatives, including vaccination campaigns, health education programs, and community outreach services.

Moreover, the Abidjan Military Hospital is committed to continuous improvement and development. It regularly updates its medical equipment and facilities to keep pace with advancements in medical technology and practices. The hospital also emphasizes the professional development of its staff through ongoing training and education, ensuring that they are well-equipped to provide high-quality healthcare services.
