The Centre Hospitalier et Universitaire (CHU) de Bouaké is a National Public Establishment (EPN) of an industrial and commercial nature. Built on a 23-hectare site, it was established in 1964. Initially a Central Hospital, then a Departmental Hospital, then a Regional Hospital (CHR), it finally became a University Hospital (CHU) on December 14, 1994.
The hospital became a CHU in order to decentralize high-level medical expertise and to support the newly-born University of Bouaké. After four (4) years in existence, its operations were adapted to changing mentalities by decree 98-383 of June 30, 1998. The planned adaptations to infrastructure and equipment were halted by successive changes at the top of the ministerial cabinet, and then at the top of the State in 1999 following the coup d'état. The Centre Hospitalier et Universitaire de Bouaké is located in the heart of the city of Bouaké, more precisely in the Odiénékourani district, opposite the prefecture and the Lycée Classique 1 de Bouaké, on the main road leading to the airport.
