Agriculture: Government Ratifies Agreement Establishing the Inter-African Coffee Organization (IACO)
The Council has adopted a decree ratifying the Agreement establishing the Inter-African Coffee Organization (IACO), adopted on November 20, 2020, government spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly announced at the conclusion of the Council of Ministers on October 1, 2025, in Abidjan.
This 2020 Agreement, referred to as the New IACO Agreement, was adopted during the organization’s 60th General Assembly, replacing the 1960 Agreement.
The Agreement seeks to better address the new challenges facing the coffee sector, particularly the issue of sustainability in the coffee economy.
It redefines the organization’s objectives and establishes new bodies, such as the African Coffee Development Fund. With Parliament having granted its approval through Law No. 2025-391 of June 11, 2025, this decree formally ratifies the New IACO Agreement.
