Energy: Crude Oil and Natural Gas Production Estimated at 16.1 Million Barrels and 2.4 Billion m³ as of December 31, 2024
From January 1 to December 31, 2024, crude oil and natural gas production are estimated at 16.1 million barrels and 2.4 billion m³, respectively. These correspond to production rates of 44,000 barrels per day of crude oil and 6.6 million m³ per day of natural gas.
This information was reported by government spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly following the Council of Ministers held on October 1, 2025, in Abidjan.
According to him, crude oil production recorded a 50% increase compared to results achieved in 2023 during the same period. This performance is mainly explained by the commissioning of the Baleine field at the end of August 2023.
Natural gas production, he added, saw a slight decline of 3%, linked to reduced sales from block CI-27 due to lower gas demand from the Electricity Sector, following the unavailability of the Azito IV thermal power plant.
The valuation of the State’s share of crude oil and natural gas stood at 216.7 billion CFA francs, down 14% compared to the performance recorded at the end of December 2023. By the end of December 2024, duties levied on petroleum products amounted to 627.7 billion CFA francs, compared to 365.7 billion CFA francs over the same period in 2023, representing an increase of 71.63%.
Regarding the electricity sector, by the end of December 2024, national gross electricity production (excluding imported energy) stood at 14,000 GWh, of which 10,000 GWh came from thermal sources (75.13%), 51 GWh from solar (0.37%), and 3,000 GWh from hydroelectric production (24.50%).
This level of production marks an increase of 4.3% compared to that achieved by the end of December 2023. The operating balance, including expenses related to network works, recorded a surplus of 8.7 billion CFA francs as of December 2024, compared to a deficit of 97.8 billion CFA francs as of December 31, 2023.
