The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (BIDC) has signed a $91.63 million financing agreement with Nigeria’s Bauchi State to support the modernization of road infrastructure and the completion of 24 strategic road and bridge projects.
The agreement, signed in Lomé, is aimed at improving transportation networks across the northeastern Nigerian state, strengthening connectivity between communities and supporting economic activities through better access to markets and services.
The financing will help accelerate the completion of key infrastructure projects, including road rehabilitation and bridge construction, as Bauchi seeks to improve mobility and create more efficient transport links for businesses, farmers and local communities.
Bauchi State authorities said the investment is expected to contribute to economic growth by reducing transport costs, improving the movement of goods and boosting trade within the region.
The project is part of the BIDC’s broader strategy to support infrastructure development across West Africa, particularly in sectors that promote regional integration, economic growth and private sector activity.
For Nigeria, improving transport infrastructure remains a major development priority as states seek to address connectivity challenges and strengthen economic opportunities outside major urban centers.
The BIDC, the development finance institution of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), provides financing for projects aimed at promoting sustainable development and regional cooperation across member countries.
