Security Situation: Germany and the UNDP alongside Côte d’Ivoire

Abidjan, June 13, 2025 – Ministers Nialé Kaba, in charge of Economy, Planning and Development, and General Vagondo Diomandé, Minister of the Interior and Security, co-chaired a high-level meeting this Friday on the 16th floor of the SCIAM building in Plateau. Present were technical and financial partners, notably the Federal Republic of Germany and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The meeting aimed to increase social stability and strengthen the socio-economic inclusion of youth and women in the border regions of northern Côte d’Ivoire.

“The initiative of the day is part of the continuation of government efforts since 2012 to consolidate social and economic gains and sustainably improve the living conditions of populations, particularly in the North,” emphasized Nialé Kaba. She also called for “a collective, orderly, and effective fight in our states with fragile economies exposed to terrorism for sustainable development.”

For her part, Ms. Blerta Cela, UNDP Resident Representative, praised “the excellent quality of cooperation that unites the Ivorian Government, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the UNDP,” highlighting the strategic nature of this steering meeting.

General Vagondo Diomandé advocated for “an increase in the aid portfolio” and close collaboration with local officials and elected representatives to ensure the full success of the project.

Finally, H.E. Matthias Veltin, Ambassador of Germany to Côte d’Ivoire, described the decision of his country and the UNDP to support the consolidation of peace and social cohesion in the northern border areas as “timely,” reaffirming Germany’s commitment to accompany the Ivorian Government in combating fragility and promoting inclusive development.
