The Prefect of the Yamoussoukro region and department, Coulibaly Gando, announced on Friday, October 24, 2025, the implementation of a curfew across the entire department due to local circumstances.
According to the official statement, the exceptional measure will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25, 2025. The decision aims to maintain public order and ensure the smooth conduct of the electoral process scheduled for the weekend.
However, the Prefect specified that certain categories of individuals are exempt from the restriction including members of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), local authorities, candidates and their authorized representatives, electoral agents, national and international observers, and journalists accredited by the CEI.
Also exempted are on-duty healthcare personnel, emergency staff from CIE and SODECI, as well as anyone with special authorization from the Prefect.
This decision comes on the eve of a sensitive election, as local authorities urge citizens to remain calm, disciplined, and compliant with administrative directives to ensure the safety and serenity of all residents of Yamoussoukro.
