The Ivorian women’s national basketball team made a strong entrance in the 2025 Afrobasket Women tournament by defeating Egypt 75–63 on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Palais des Sports in Treichville.

In a venue packed with passionate home support, the Elephantes delivered a solid performance right from tip-off against a determined Egyptian side. The opening minutes set the tone for an intense match, with Egypt scoring first before Côte d’Ivoire quickly responded with sharp offensive play.

Led by head coach Stéphane Leite, the Ivorians imposed their rhythm early, ending the first quarter ahead at 21–12. Energized by the home crowd, they maintained their momentum into the second quarter, even as Egypt’s No. 15 and No. 33 landed several three-point shots to keep the pressure on.

After the break, Tolo Morgane and her teammates picked up the pace. Strong defensively and precise in attack, they widened the gap to a 15-point lead by the end of the third quarter.

In the final stretch, the Elephantes showed maturity by calmly managing their lead despite Egypt’s comeback attempts, led by their point guard (No. 3). Côte d’Ivoire held firm and finished the game with poise, securing a 75–63 victory.

This opening win kicks off Côte d’Ivoire’s campaign in the 26th edition of the Afrobasket Women, held from July 26 to August 3, 2025, in Abidjan. A promising result that strengthens the team’s continental ambitions.
