Abidjan, Saturday, July 26, 2025 – A festive atmosphere set the tone for the kickoff of the 29th edition of the Women’s Afrobasket in Côte d’Ivoire. On the court of the Palais des Sports in Treichville, African delegations were welcomed in grand style during a vibrant opening ceremony filled with warmth, fraternity, and Ivorian hospitality.
In attendance were high-ranking dignitaries, including representatives of the Ivorian government, national sports authorities, and FIBA Africa. The tournament was officially launched in a spirit of brotherhood and pan-African celebration.
At the heart of this opening ceremony was the word "AKWABA," the Ivorian symbol of hospitality, proudly embraced as a unifying theme. It guided a lively performance blending traditional dances, urban music, and the parade of participating teams, all within an atmosphere of unity and celebration.
"Akwaba to the Africa of women’s basketball," declared an official, welcoming the 12 national teams ready to battle on the court for the prestigious continental title.
