Angola Confirms Its Status as the Most Successful Team in FIBA AfroBasket History

Angola has reaffirmed its status as the most decorated team in the history of the FIBA AfroBasket 2025, defeating Mali 70–43 in the final.

With this victory, the country becomes the most successful basketball nation in Africa, securing a record 12 titles. It is, however, Angola’s first African championship since the 2013 tournament held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Angolan team finished their campaign with a perfect 6-0 record. For its part, Mali reached the AfroBasket final for the first time in its history, closing with a 4-3 record.

For the third consecutive night, all 12,700 seats at the Kilamba Arena in Luanda, the capital city, were sold out to watch Angola play.

Earlier in the day, Senegal defeated Cameroon 98–72, securing third place for the third consecutive time.

Angolan guard Childe Dundao was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament and selected to the All-Tournament Team 2025, alongside his teammate Bruno Fernando, Mali’s duo Mahamane Coulibaly and Aliou Diarra, and Senegal’s Brancou Badio.

Other awards included: Fair Play (Madagascar), Best Rebounder (Aliou Diarra), Best Three-Point Shooter (Brancou Badio), and Top Scorer (Brancou Badio).
