Tennis: Africa Cup of Nations returns to Abidjan with new mixed-team format

The Africa Cup of Nations of Tennis will return to Abidjan from November 24 to 28, 2026, five years after its last edition. The 17th edition will bring together 12 African nations and introduce a new mixed-team format, the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) said.

Under the new format, men’s and women’s players from each country will compete together as one national team. Each tie between two countries will consist of three matches: one women’s singles match, one men’s singles match and one mixed doubles match. The format is inspired by the Hopman Cup, an international mixed-team tennis competition.

The tournament marks the return of the continental competition to West Africa after the previous edition was held in Tunisia in November 2021. The 2021 tournament also featured 12 nations.

For Côte d’Ivoire, hosting the competition adds to a series of international tennis events held in Abidjan in 2026. The city hosted ATP Challenger tournaments earlier this year, as the country continues to develop its presence on the international tennis calendar.

The CAT has also announced that prize money will be awarded to all participating nations, with additional rewards for the winning teams. The identities of the 12 participating countries and further details on the competition format are expected to be announced later.
