National Commitment Against Gender-Based Violence Launched in Côte d’Ivoire
Côte d’Ivoire is strengthening its efforts to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV). On Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Auditorium of Sofitel Abidjan Hôtel Ivoire, Ivorian authorities officially launched the National Commitment Against Gender-Based Violence, an initiative aimed at mobilizing all sectors of society to protect women and girls.
The ceremony brought together prominent personalities, institutional partners, civil society organizations, and citizens who came to express their support for a cause that has become a major issue for social cohesion and human development.
In his address, the senior government representative praised the initiative led by the Minister of Women, Family and Children, Nassénéba Touré. He paid tribute to her unwavering commitment to promoting women's rights, protecting survivors, and preventing violence in all its forms.
“I would like to congratulate my younger sister, Mrs. Nassénéba Touré, for this initiative and for her constant commitment to protecting women and defending the rights of survivors,” he stated before the audience.
The event also provided an opportunity to unite several national institutions and technical partners engaged in the fight against GBV. Participants demonstrated their commitment to this collective effort through the adoption of a National Declaration, presented as a significant step toward strengthening prevention, awareness-raising, and victim support initiatives.
According to the organizers, the declaration reflects a shared determination to sustainably reduce violence against women and girls, which continues to affect thousands of people and hinder their social, economic, and psychological well-being.
Beyond institutional commitments, authorities emphasized the need for the active involvement of all citizens. The fight against gender-based violence cannot be the sole responsibility of public authorities or specialized organizations. It requires the participation of families, communities, opinion leaders, young people, and society as a whole.
To this end, a solemn appeal was made to the population, urging everyone to help make zero tolerance for gender-based violence a daily reality.
Through this national initiative, Côte d’Ivoire reaffirms its ambition to build a more just, inclusive, and protective society, where every woman and girl can live in safety, with full respect for her dignity and fundamental rights.
