BOAD Approves CFA50 Billion Financing for Air Côte d'Ivoire's Fleet Expansion
The West African Development Bank (BOAD) has approved a CFA50 billion ($86 million) financing package for Air Côte d'Ivoire to support the acquisition of four Airbus A319 aircraft, strengthening the national carrier's regional network and supporting its expansion strategy across West and Central Africa.
The approval was granted during BOAD's 151st Ordinary Board Meeting held in Lomé on June 26. The financing forms part of a broader CFA344.6 billion package allocated to 11 development projects across member states of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).
The investment is expected to enhance Air Côte d'Ivoire's medium-haul fleet, enabling the airline to increase frequencies on existing routes and launch new regional services as passenger demand continues to grow across the continent.
The Airbus A319, widely used for short- and medium-haul operations, is expected to improve the airline's operational flexibility and efficiency while supporting its ambition to strengthen Abidjan's position as a regional aviation hub.
The latest financing builds on BOAD's previous support for the airline. In 2025, the regional development bank approved a CFA30 billion loan to help finance the acquisition of two Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, marking Air Côte d'Ivoire's expansion into long-haul operations.
Founded in 2012, Air Côte d'Ivoire has steadily expanded its network across Africa and serves as one of the region's fastest-growing carriers. The airline plays a strategic role in improving regional connectivity, facilitating trade, tourism, and business travel within West Africa.
For BOAD, the financing reflects its broader mandate to support strategic infrastructure and promote regional economic integration. The expansion of Air Côte d'Ivoire's fleet is expected to strengthen air transport links, improve mobility across the region, and support long-term economic growth.
